Dental Implants

Missing teeth can cause embarrassment, discomfort, and significant oral health concerns that will worsen over time.

Fortunately, Drs. Joseph Sutton, David Sutton, and Hannah Yi provide dental implants—the ultimate solution for missing teeth.

How can dental implant treatment help patients from Morristown, Sevierville, and Newport, TN?

What Are Dental Implants?

Dental implants are small titanium devices that act as prosthetic tooth roots and support dental restorations such as crowns, bridges, or dentures. During a surgical procedure, a dentist or oral surgeon makes incisions in the gums and places the implants into the jawbone. Over a period of months, the titanium in the implants naturally fuses with the bone, resulting in a secure foundation that is just as strong as natural teeth.

Because of their durability, stability, and longevity, dental implants are considered to be modern dentistry's best solution for tooth loss. We can help you see if they're right for your smile during a detailed consultation.

Top 3 Benefits of Dental Implants From Newport Family Dental Care

They Restore Your Smile

No one likes living with a gap in their smile. Our Morristown-area dentists complete implant treatment with lifelike restorations that perfectly resemble natural teeth, so you'll be able to smile with confidence.

They Strengthen Your Bite

Unlike traditional dentures, which can be unstable and prone to slipping out of place, dental implants are firmly rooted in the jawbone. After your implant treatment is complete, you will be able to eat all of your favorite foods with no worries about your restoration coming loose.

They Maintain Your Bone Health

Jawbone atrophy is a serious consequence of tooth loss. When tooth roots are missing, the bone loses necessary stimulation and begins to recede, which can result in aging features and additional oral concerns. Dental implants fuse with the jawbone to keep it strong and healthy.

Dental Implants in Action

Dental implants are artificial tooth roots that support crowns, bridges, or dentures. The dentists at Newport Family Dental Care in Newport, TN, provide dental implants to patients with missing teeth. Most patients with missing teeth can benefit from implant dentistry.

Don't Be Ashamed. Tooth Loss Is a Common Problem

At least 178 million Americans are missing at least one tooth

By the time they reach the age of 44, approximately 70% of adults in the United States have lost at least one of their permanent teeth. Tooth loss may be the result of oral trauma, periodontal disease, or even tooth decay. Approximately 178 million people in the country have at least one missing tooth, and this number is expected to increase over the next two decades because of periodontal disease.

Consider All the Advantages Dental Implants vs. Traditional Restorations

For decades, dentistry's best answer to the problem of missing teeth was the use of traditional dentures and bridges. However, dental implants are the gold standard in modern dentistry and are preferred for several reasons, including:

  • Ability to prevent jawbone atrophy
  • Reduced risk of needing a tooth extraction
  • No slipping, clacking, or other noises
  • Improved eating and speaking ability
  • Reduced sensitivity
  • Preservation of remaining healthy teeth

We Use Bicon Implants Advanced Materials and Better Results

At Newport Family Dental Care, serving Morristown, Sevierville, TN, and surrounding areas, we use a variety of different implant brands based on the unique needs of each individual patient. However, the implant we prefer and use most often is manufactured by a company called Bicon®. We like to work with this brand of implant because it allows us to reduce the number of necessary surgeries for patients with limited bone.

Don't Wait and Risk Your Oral Health Request an implant consultation today

The jaw relies on stimulation from the tooth roots. Even a single missing tooth can cause the deterioration process to begin. This can lead to further tooth loss and a sunken facial appearance. Dental implants are the only restorative dentistry procedure that can stop and prevent jawbone atrophy, which can save you from needing bone grafting later.

Not Eligible Yet? We Can Help

Maybe you're missing bone material. Or, you have gum disease. Perhaps you still have decayed or damaged teeth in place. While all of these problems can affect your eligibility for implants, they're also completely treatable. Our state-of-the-art practice uses advanced treatments and techniques to help you qualify for implants, like:

Bone Grafting

If your jawbone has already experienced significant atrophy, you may not have enough material left to secure an implant. We offer bone grafting, ridge augmentation, and sinus lifts to directly address bone loss in specific areas.

Periodontal Care

When you have tooth loss, you may also have gum disease. Our knowledgable dentists can perform periodontal care to help ensure your gums are healthy enough to hold your new dental implant in place.

Tooth Extraction

You're not the first Newport dental implant patient to come to us with broken or decayed teeth. We can help with gentle tooth extraction paired with dental anesthetic and your choice of sedation.

How Are Dental Implants Placed? Your Treatment Timeline

Implant treatment usually takes around six months to complete. By the end of your timeline, you'll have a beautiful, complete smile that lets you eat comfortably and speak clearly once again.

Supplementary procedures like bone grafting, sinus lifts, and tooth extraction may extend your treatment. However, they're well worth the time.
Supplementary procedures like bone grafting, sinus lifts, and tooth extraction may extend your treatment. However, they're well worth the time.

Implant Placement

During your first surgery, one of our doctors will first administer your desired level of anesthesia or sedation. Then, they will make a small incision in your gums. Next, the doctor will place the titanium implant through the incision and into your bone. Finally, we will place a temporary restoration or simply suture the incision shut.

First Healing Period

Once your implant is in place, a healing period of three to six months will be required for the implant to integrate with the bone. If you were fitted with a temporary restoration, it will conceal the gap in your smile until your following appointment.

Abutment Placement

After the implant has fused with the bone, you will return to our office in Newport, TN, for the placement of an abutment. An abutment is a piece that connects the implant to the crown, bridge, or denture–think of it as a trailer hitch. This procedure may require the gums to be pulled back again.

Second Healing Period

A second, shorter healing period of about two weeks will be required for your gums to heal fully around the abutment.

Restoration Placement

After your soft tissue has healed, you will be ready for the placement of your custom-made crown, bridge, or denture. One of our dentists will securely fasten your dental restoration to the abutment and you can leave our Newport office with a functional, attractive smile.

Caring for Your Smile After Dental Implants

Just as with natural teeth, practicing good oral hygiene is very important to ensure your mouth stays healthy after receiving dental implants.

Be sure to brush twice a day and floss daily. A floss threader or water flosser can help clean hard-to-reach areas, such as underneath a restoration. You should also continue to attend regular dental exams and cleanings at our Newport dental practice.

Finally, if you ever have any questions or concerns, we encourage you to reach out to our compassionate team.

Your restoration will wear over time and eventually need to be replaced. With the proper maintenance, your crown, dental bridge, or denture can last up to 15 years or more.

Frequently Asked Questions About Dental Implants

Q. Does implant placement hurt?

A. No. Some discomfort while you heal is to be expected. However, you will receive a local anesthetic to numb the area. Our Newport dentists also offer sedation options to ensure you are comfortable during your procedure.

Q. What can mini dental implants help with?

A. Insufficient bone tissue is a common obstacle for patients with tooth loss. Sometimes, instead of bone grafting, we can simply use a mini dental implant to secure your restoration. Since it requires less bone tissue, it can help you avoid any bone grafting.

Q. Can I receive dental implants if I have a metal allergy or sensitivity?

A. If you have a metal allergy, it is very important that you discuss this with your dentist. Some patients with metal allergies do fine with titanium; others will require an alternative, like ceramic implants or another restorative procedure. We have options to meet varied needs.
