Central Sleep Apnea
Patients with central sleep apnea stop breathing while sleeping because their brains fail to send signals to their muscles to breathe. Central sleep apnea is a rare, complex neurological disorder that requires the attention of highly trained specialists.
Obstructive Sleep Apnea
Patients with obstructive sleep apnea stop breathing while asleep because the soft tissues in their mouths and throats collapse, obstructing their upper airways. Obstructive sleep apnea is a relatively common condition that our dentists can treat in collaboration with specialized sleep doctors. The telltale symptom of obstructive sleep apnea is excessive snoring.

Our dentists can custom-design an oral appliance for you that will shift the position of your jaws so your airway remains open while you sleep.
What About CPAP?
A common treatment for obstructive sleep apnea is continuous positive airway pressure, or CPAP. CPAP machines use masks that cover the mouth and nose to blow air into your airways, keeping them open. While continuous positive airway pressure is effective, many patients find the masks uncomfortable, inconvenient, and embarrassing.
Oral appliance therapy is a much more discreet solution that patients tend to prefer. Our doctors will help you understand the pros and cons of both methods before working with you to decide which option is best.
