Concerned About Costs?

Cosmetic dentistry is not covered by insurance, so patients should expect to pay out-of-pocket for porcelain veneers. We offer several ways to help patients manage the cost of veneers, including financing through CareCredit®.

What Are Dental Veneers?

A veneer is a wafer-thin laminate that our dentists can attach to the front surface of a tooth, masking imperfections. Our dentists can provide veneers that look virtually indistinguishable from natural teeth.

Dental Veneers Step-by-Step

Our dentists can often upgrade a patient's smile with veneers in a single office visit.
Our dentists can often upgrade a patient's smile with veneers in a single office visit.

Preparation

Our dentists will remove a thin layer (typically less than one millimeter) of enamel from the tooth structure of each tooth that will receive a veneer. This is done to ensure that the veneers lie flush alongside adjacent teeth and don't appear bulky. After removing the enamel, our dentists will take digital scans of your teeth.

Fabrication

Our dentists will then upload the images of your teeth to our CEREC machine. The machine will use these scans to custom-create your veneers out of a block of tooth-colored dental porcelain. Depending on how many veneers you are receiving, this process can be completed in less than an hour.

Placement

Once your porcelain veneers are complete, they will be bonded to the front surfaces of your teeth by your dentist using a specialized resin. In a matter of minutes, your veneers will be firmly bonded, your teeth will be completely transformed, and you'll be able to walk out of our office with a brand-new smile.

FAQ About Veneers in Newport, TN

  • Does veneer placement hurt?

No. Receiving veneers is practically painless because your dentist will numb the area before treatment begins. Our Newport dental practice also offers sedation options if you need extra comfort measures. If you experience pain during or after your treatment, please let us know so we can address your concerns promptly. Your teeth may be sensitive for a while after placement, but this will fade.

  • How long do veneers last?

With proper care and maintenance, your porcelain veneers can last for a decade or longer. It is important to remember that once the tooth is altered, it will always require a restoration.

  • What's the difference between a crown and a veneer?

A dental crown is essentially a tooth-shaped cap that completely covers a natural tooth. Veneers, on the other hand, only cover the front surfaces of teeth. Crowns are usually used to protect damaged teeth and teeth that have been treated with root canal therapy, but they can be used for cosmetic purposes, as well. Whether we use a crown or a veneer to improve the appearance of an imperfect tooth will often depend on the extent of enhancement needed. A tooth that was broken due to trauma will probably benefit from a crown; an anterior tooth with deep discoloration is probably better suited for a veneer.

  • Are veneers a better option than teeth whitening?

If you have discolored teeth, you may be wondering if you should invest in professional teeth whitening or porcelain veneers. The right solution for you will depend on the nature of your dental stains. If you simply have surface-level stains, teeth whitening can effectively brighten your smile, and whitening is more affordable and less invasive than veneers. However, some stains don't respond to whitening. In that case, dental veneers are probably the best available option.

  • How do I take care of my veneers?

Living with veneers doesn't require any major changes to your normal dental routine. If you brush and floss every day and visit Newport Family Dental Care for a checkup at least twice a year, your veneers can easily last for a decade or longer.

  • Veneers or orthodontics — which is right for me?

Veneers are often referred to as instant orthodontics because they can conceal minor misalignment. However, if you have moderate-to-severe orthodontic issues, orthodontic treatment is probably a better option. Our Newport dental practice offers ClearCorrect®, a discreet alternative to braces that uses clear plastic trays. We can also coordinate care with a trusted orthodontist if traditional braces are a better solution for you.
